Life provides a teacher when you’re ready to learn
Teacher is an ancient and noble profession, and the maxim says, “When the student is ready, the teacher will appear.” So I’ve decided to substitute teach at the private boy’s academy, looking for that special student who needs my guidance.
Working at this private academy has pre-screened my pool of candidates. My most important lessons will, by necessity, be taught after regular classes. I like to get a boy who’s ready to become a man, and hasn’t yet developed bad habits.
Teacher must be seen to be above reproach
As the classes go by, I hone my list of likelies down to a few suitable prospects. One of them, Luke, has really captured my interest. He’s 17, smart, personable, athletic but not a jock, and has a longer-than-your-average-teen attention span.
I assign a project, and tell the class I’ll be available after school to provide any assistance needed or wanted. Within the week, I have Luke in my classroom after school, seeking my help.
“Teacher, there are things that I still have to learn…”
I make Luke comfortable with being close to me, and feeling my touch on his arm, shoulder and back. I time it that only half his questions are answered when we need to leave since doors are being locked. I invite him to come to my house this evening, after he’s had family dinner and completed his other homework.
When the doorbell rings, I answer it, wearing… how would YOU have me dressed, if you were Luke? Would you be looking forward to more lessons from your now-favorite teacher? Will Luke (or you) be changing your nickname to Lucky? Call me and let’s find out.
